Prospective jurors at a first-degree murder trial have just had their salaries bumped to $100 a day from day one, compared to the $40 a day from day 11 to day 50 standard. Ontario Superior Court Judge Bruce G. Thomas said his office was inundated with letters from citizens summoned for potential selection who wanted to be excused due to financial reasons. Thomas expressed sympathy for the Windsor-area jurors, many of whom have been affected by auto industry layoffs, and thanked the Ministry of the Attorney-General for not opposing the pay increase.
