The CCCA’s 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony

The in-house counsel community gathered to celebrate 25 years of excellence

CCCA’s 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony

What: Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA) 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony
Where:
Hilton Toronto, 145 Richmond St. W.
When: April 14, 2013

This year’s CCCA gala dinner and awards ceremony proved to be a bit of an international affair. Guest speakers and attendees from across Canada and beyond mingled at the Hilton Toronto during a cocktail reception that kicked off the evening, which in turn was the official opening event for the CCCA’s annual national spring conference, which was celebrating its 25th anniversary.

CCCA spring conference co-chairs Karen Hacker and Rob Van Walleghem co-hosted the evening along with the master of ceremonies, James Elliott, who travelled all the way from New Zealand to emcee (and was happy to poke fun at his homeland throughout the dinner). The event combined fantastic entertainment by the Family Association for Mental Health Everywhere (FAME) Divas (FAME being the conference’s charity of choice), a delicious meal and the presentation of five CCCA Awards.

“The CCCA’s awards gala gave us an opportunity to recognize excellence and reward outstanding individuals who have given so much time and energy to our profession over the past 25 years. We congratulate all the winners — and the countless others in our ranks — whose dedication and commitment have been, and continue to be, so vital to our growth and success,” said Grant Borbridge, chair of the CCCA.

In addition to awarding the annual R.V.A. Jones Award (named in honour of the CCCA’s founding executive director) this year, the CCCA introduced four new awards to commemorate the association’s 25th anniversary.

The awards and their recipients:

  • The winner of the R.V.A. Jones Award was Brian Armstrong, Q.C., formerly of Bruce Power in Tiverton, Ont.
  • The Community Builder Award went to Investors Group for its volunteer work at the Legal Help Centre in Winnipeg, Man.
  • Heather Innes of Oshawa, Ont., was the winner of the Professional Contribution Award
  • The Special Contribution Award went to both Robert V.A. Jones, Q.C. and Derek C. Hayes, both from Toronto
  • The Up and Comer Award was given to Tyler Langdon of McCain Foods Limited, from Florenceville, N.B.

Precedent congratulates all the award winners, along with the CCCA, for its first quarter-century of work supporting the in-house legal community.
