Canada's Best Diversity EmployersStikeman Elliott and Blakes have made this year’s list of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers.

Blakes’ long-running Equity and Diversity Committee was key in their selection to the list. The firm also made the cut last year.

Among the reasons listed for Stikeman Elliott’s selection is the firm’s initiatives to support women lawyers — an issue we covered as in the cover stories of our Spring 2009 and Winter 2009 issues. An article by Jeff Gray from today’s Globe, presently not available online, examines the alarming trend of the lack of women working in private practice. Look for it in a special section on this year’s diversity list.

The Canada’s Best Diversity Employers competition rates companies according to their diversity programs for women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal people, persons with disabilities and LGBT people. The competition is now in its fourth year.
