There’s a brand new restaurant in Toronto that’s missing something most restaurants can’t live without: a deep fryer.
Four, a new healthy living restaurant, just opened at King and Bay in Commerce Court (in Soul of the Vine’s former space). Owned by the same company, we assume it will be all the class without the calories.
Executive Corporate Chef Gord Mackie has taken his guests’ comments to heart and has designed a menu for this new venue that puts the calorie cap at 650 for each dish.
This is good news for those of us who’ve been hungering for an upscale lunch spot where expressions like “dressing on the side” and “vegetarian” are acceptable and even encouraged. For those who aren’t impressed with complex carbohydrates like spelt flour, ancient grains, and buckwheat noodles, Four will have some convincing to do.
Mackie, who also sets the menu for Far Niente and Reds Bistro, is making a pretty good case. His inspiration for this menu comes from around the world, including the Mediterranean, India, and Japan. And what he lacks in deep frying, he makes up for by steaming, grilling, and broiling.
“We’re in the perfect location to welcome young lawyers looking for a hip new place to take a client for lunch or dinner,” says Misty Beazley, Vice President of Operations at Signature Group Restaurants, which includes Four. “But we’re also offering late night small plates with interesting cocktails and an organic wine list — so we’re certain to become an ideal location for lawyers to loosen their ties after the office closes.”
