Last week, the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto (SABA) hosted its impressive fourth annual gala and awards. The event included such guests such as former Supreme Court of Canada Justice The Honourable Frank Iacobucci, Attorney General Chris Bentley and Minister of Government Services Harinder Takhar.

The event, held at Le Meridien King Edward Hotel, paid tribute to distinguished professionals in the South Asian legal community who have not only excelled in their profession, but who have also contributed to the South Asian community at large.

This year’s SABA Awards recipients included:

  • Distinguished Career Award: Malliha Wilson, Assistant Deputy Attorney General
  • Female Lawyer of the Year: Jasmine Akbarali, partner at Lerners LLP
  • Male Lawyer of the Year: Subrata Bhattacharjee, partner at Heena Blaikie LLP
  • Young Practitioner of the Year: Aaron Arun Dhir, Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School
