Howard Hampton, the former Ontario NDP leader and former Ontario attorney general, will be joining Fasken Martineau, the firm said Wednesday.

Hampton, who was the MPP for Kenora–Rainy River, did not seek re-election in the Ontario provincial election earlier this month. He will join Fasken Martineau effective October 24.

“We are very pleased to have Howard Hampton join our team,” Martin Denyes, managing partner for Fasken Martineau in Ontario, said in a news release. “His expertise and commitment to sustainable use of our natural resources along with his understanding of the north will add significant value to our firm and most importantly to our clients.”

Hampton served in Ontario’s cabinet from 1990 to 1995, first as attorney general and then as minister of natural resources. He was leader of the Ontario NDP from 1996 to 2009. Upon joining Fasken Martineau, Hampton will be a member of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Aboriginal Affairs groups.
