pollResponses to our survey of recently called bencher candidates are rolling in, and will be posted here beginning next week.

For our 2011 LSUC bencher election coverage, we’re focusing on candidates in their first 15 years’ of practice. The decision stems from our belief that Convocation needs voices with a broader range of legal experience. “Young lawyers bring a new perspective to the table: ideas of how the profession should evolve, or how to keep young women in private practice,” Precedent Managing Editor Crystal Luxmore writes in the editor’s note of our most recent issue. “They are also the best equipped to make decisions about admission to the bar, articling requirements and struggles lawyers face in their early years.”

This year’s election includes candidates called from as recently as 2010. But we want to know what you think: Should there be a minimum number of years a lawyer must practice before he or she can run for bencher? Take our latest poll, to the right of this post, and offer your perspective.
