Pro Bono Law Ontario has expanded its Law Help Ontario program to Ottawa, thanks to the $50,000 Emil Gumpert Award of The American College of Trial Lawyers.

The self-help legal resource centre for unrepresented litigants, which was launched last month, is housed in the same building as the Ottawa Superior Court of Justice. The centre provides information, advice and help completing court forms for non-family civil matters, including Small Claims.

The organization’s Toronto office served 6,000 people in the first half of 2009 — more than twice as many as they helped in all of 2008.
