UPDATE: Noel has since changed his mind; he’s no longer planning to appear at his attacker’s sentencing.

Why is Noel Gallagher insisting on making a personal appearance in Toronto court to read a victim impact statement about being assaulted on stage here two summers ago?

More light may be shed on this later today, when lawyers on both sides of the hearing for Danny Sullivan are scheduled to be back in court to settle on a date for his sentencing hearing. Sullivan pleaded guilty in November to pushing the former Oasis guitarist into some monitor equipment during the band’s 2008 Virgin Music Festival appearance.

Sullivan was to be sentenced on Friday, but Crown prosecutor Ruth Kleinhenz asked for a delay so that Gallagher can make his way to Toronto to read his statement.

So far, there’s no word as to why Gallagher has insisted on making a personal appearance. If it happens, though, it should be interesting, for lack of a better word; the musician is not exactly known for holding his tongue.
