leafIt turns out the rumours were true: Canadian Lawyer and Law Times were sold to Thomson Reuters along with Canada Law Book. The sale also includes the other legal titles in the CLB Media family, Canadian Lawyer InHouse and Canadian Lawyer 4Students.

Last week, when magazine industry consultant DB Scott reported on the initial sale, it was unclear whether the CLB Media properties would follow Canada Law Book to Carswell, a Toronto-based company owned by Thomson Reuters. But comments on Scott’s post speculated that the periodicals would indeed be included.

The Cartwright Group’s sale of its legal publishing properties — along with other CLB Media titles, which will be sold separately — was triggered by the estate planning of its president, Stuart Morrison. The company was founded in 1855.
