This Thursday, legal professionals will go back to school, courts will throw open their doors, and lawyers’ phones will ring off the hook.
It’s all part of Law Day — an annual event organized by the Canadian Bar Association to celebrate the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Provincial branches of the CBA are organizing all kinds of activities to help the public learn more about the law and how the legal system works.
In Ontario, events run all this week — including symposiums, court tours, the conclusion of a province-wide high school mock trial competition, and the popular phone-a-lawyer program in select cities.
Plus, lawyer Susheel Gupta will receive the inaugural OJEN Lennox Award in Ottawa on Thursday to recognize the work he’s done to expand legal education opportunities.
