Earlier this afternoon, glass from the TD Canada Trust tower Royal Trust Tower fell 27 floors and shattered on the street below.

As a result, King Street West is closed right now between York and Bay streets — which is sure to cause traffic chaos for the evening rush hour. The 504 King streetcar is being diverted until later this evening.

From a Toronto Star online article:

Gusts of wind caused scaffolding to crash into the windows, said Staff Sgt. John Boyce of 52 division. He said the windows are about 10-feet-tall and 5-feet-wide.

“When an officer got there, some glass fell around him, so that’s why we ended up shutting the entire area,” he explained. No injuries have been reported.
