George Hunter of Borden Ladner Gervais is being sued for $1.4 million by his former mistress, the National Post reported over the weekend. Both Hunter and BLG are named as defendants in the suit, filed by a woman who can only be identified as “A.B.” Hunter was previously suspended from practicing for 60 days by the Law Society of Upper Canada when he pleaded guilty to professional misconduct because of the affair. A.B. was one of Hunter’s clients at the time.
Hunter, a former treasurer of the Law Society, stepped down from that position in 2005 when he disclosed the affair. BLG spokesman and national managing partner Sean Weir is quoted in the Post as saying “These are just allegations….We are satisfied the firm acted appropriately.” Stay tuned.
