Writer Michael Benedict reports:

The shift to space-equality, says [FMC Toronto Managing Partner Mike] Kaplan, has gone smoothly.

“Uniformity in offices has been well received,” he says. “We have a collegial atmosphere and frequently work in teams for our clients. The new offices reflect and support that approach.”

FMC can now be found on the second through seventh floors of the Royal Trust Tower, a position Kaplan says he values because it helps the firm “more connected to the city.”

The article also provides some legal real estate statistics, courtesy of Jones Lang LaSalle:

  • law offices represent 15 percent of all the square footage of office space in the financial district;
  • of the 640 firms tracked by Jones Lang LaSalle, 90 percent of them are based downtown; and
  • all 25 of the top firms have their offices in the city centre.
