York University has appointed one of its own as Chancellor. Osgoode alumnus, former Ontario Chief Justice, and Globe and Mail ‘nation builder’ Roy McMurtry was appointed to the post yesterday.

“Roy McMurtry has helped shape the legal and social framework of Ontario, and York University is fortunate to have him in this important leadership role,” York board of governors’ chair Marshall Cohen said in the press release.

“I am delighted and humbled to have the opportunity serve as Chancellor of York,” McMurtry chimed in. He takes up the post officially on May 23, 2008.
