The Toronto Lawyers Association held its first-ever Diversity Soirée last Thursday night, celebrating the strength of the growing cultural diversity reflected in the Toronto bar.
The well-attended wine and cheese party, which took place at the TLA lounge on University Avenue, featured guest speaker Justice Harry LaForme.
The soirée was a joint initiative of the Toronto Lawyers Association in association with the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association, Association of Chinese Canadian Lawyers of Ontario, Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, Canadian Association of South Asian Lawyers, Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, Hellenic Canadian Lawyers Association, Hispanic Ontario Lawyers Association, Iranian Canadian Lawyers Association, Korean Canadian Lawyers Association, and the South Asian Bar Association.
“The Toronto Lawyers Association is excited to host this event, which celebrates and promotes the diversity of the Toronto bar and forges relationships between the diverse members of the Toronto bar and the bench,” said soiree MC and TLA president Sam Marr. “We hope that this event will allow members of our legal community, who are often isolated and distant from the corridors of power, to develop relationships and social connections with those who have influence in the legal community.”
