What: The 18th Annual Toronto Lawyers Association Awards Reception
Where: Omni King Edward Hotel, Toronto
When: March 8, 2018
It’s been close to 25 years since John Laskin was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario. But he had been making an impact on the profession well before that moment, as both a litigator and a passionate advocate for plain language in legal writing.
For his legacy, the Toronto Lawyers Association presented him with its 2018 Award of Distinction at the Omni King Edward Hotel in Toronto. In his remarks to the crowd, Laskin lauded the increase he has seen in the number of women arguing appeals. “We have much better gender balance than we’ve ever had,” he said. “And that strengthens our justice system.”
Also in attendance was Ian Hull, a mediator and co-founder of Hull & Hull LLP, who received the 2018 Honsberger Award for his long-term dedication to the Feed The Hungry program at the Law Society of Ontario.
