Ah, the mid-winter blahs. You have been wearing the same clothes since the cold hit in November. There is little in the stores to pique your interest or allow you to change up your wardrobe. You probably have a cold, or are getting over a cold. Your nose is red, your lips are chapped, your hair is dull and you probably put on 10 lbs over Christmas that you haven’t lost yet. And worst of all, there is no spring thaw in sight for at least a few months.
You look like crap. Yes. Admit it. You do. Self-awareness is the first step to redemption.
Time for a mid-winter pick-me-up! Here’s what to do to go from glum to glam!
- Butt Lightening – You have two options – exercise, or buy some Spanx. Depends on whether you are of the long-term pain or short-term gain school. Or do both. Buy the Spanx to give you some instant motivation and then buy the Dancing with the Stars Cardio Dance DVDs. Seeing Maksim with his shirt off is motivation enough!
- Hair Brightening – Time for some highlights. The upcoming spring season calls for a shift from lowlights to highlights. Ask for some gold-y highlights to perk up your look. This requires a visit to a sa-lon – Scarlett Johansson didn’t really use a box of L’Oreal to get that colour. And be sure to get a snazzy new haircut while you are there!
- Teeth Whitening – Perk up your smile and re-pearlize your pearly whites with one of the many tooth-whitening products available on the market. No need to be so drastic as to visit the dentist – after all, this is supposed to make you feel better. Just pop in to Shoppers and pick up some Crest Whitestrips. Promises results in just 7 days. (Check their website – coupons are often posted.)
- Face Tightening – Get a facial and slough off all that dead skin that has been dulling your otherwise sparkling complexion for the past few months. Visit a reputable spa – in Toronto, Vancouver or Calgary the hotel-owned spas are good bets – and get a great facial. Not the cheapest one they have on tap either. Spring for the deluxe version (Ooh, get a head massage too! Love the head massage!)
Set aside a week or two as a sort of beauty-boot camp and complete all of the aforementioned tasks. I guarantee you will look and feel better and be ready to weather those final days/weeks/months of winter!
