There’s a subtle science to pitches, writes Mark Herrmann (Aon’s vice president and chief counsel — litigation) in his latest column for Above the Law about working as in-house counsel at a major company.
To illustrate his point, Herrmann presents two pitches he recently heard from potential outside counsel. The first pitch included an associate telling Herrmann and his colleagues about how moving to the firm making the pitch has changed his life and improved his career prospects. In the second pitch, a new partner at a different firm described why he chose the firm he’s now working at over all others, and why Aon should do the same.
Can you spot the dud? (Of course you can.) Read Herrmann’s column to find out his perspective on how and why these two pitches worked…or didn’t.
