The legal community has lost one of its stalwart members. David Stockwood, Q.C. died on March 7 after a battle with prostate cancer.
When I was practicing media law, I shared space with David’s firm, Stockwoods LLP Barristers. I got to know David and admired his strong commitment to mentoring and supporting the young lawyers in his firm.
In addition to being an advocate, a leader, a teacher, and a mentor, David was also a good sport. He showed his sense of humour when he came to the defense of Mark’s Work Wearhouse pants after the Fashionista mocked them in one of her columns. He wrote to congratulate me on the launch of lawandstyle.ca. In those early days, long before the magazine, his encouragement meant a lot to me.
The list of David’s accomplishments is long and his contributions to the legal community are many. We have lost one of our best advocates – a great litigator and a true gentleman. There is a tribute to David on the Stockwoods website and an obituary that ran in the Globe and Mail.
