Marketing Manager
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in marketing and communications to support growth at an innovative, independent media company. Our collegial and creative environment will provide you with leadership opportunities to apply and grow your skills. The marketing manager will play an important role in all aspects of the business—supporting the publisher with sales and new projects, while also helping to build and promote our brands in the legal community and beyond. We are looking for a creative thinker who can see the big picture and help us meet our goals. This is an exciting time of change and growth as we pivot to our new digital-only model. It is a great opportunity for an innovative professional to join our team and contribute to the new direction of the business.
Responsibilities
Digital Marketing Strategy
The marketing manager will work closely with Precedent’s publisher and editor to lead a digital marketing strategy for the company’s online editorial content and The Precedent A-List. This will include taking the lead on improving the company’s SEO and online discoverability, in order to increase traffic and drive revenue. The marketing manager will delve into the company’s web analytics and recommend additional growth strategies (such as ways to increase our number of newsletter subscribers). Another task will be to collaborate with the editor on a social media and newsletter strategy. The marketing manager will also be curious about new trends in digital media and explore and evaluate opportunities as they arise.
Sales
The marketing manager will work in collaboration with the publisher on sales tasks, such as attending sales meetings; drafting client proposals, reports and presentations; responding to requests for media kits; updating our client database; and researching new sales leads. The marketing manager will develop a calendar for sending marketing materials to current and potential advertisers.
Advertising
The marketing manager will build strong relationships with our advertisers. The role will involve working closely with our advertisers to collect ad artwork, ensuring that our clients’ advertising and sponsored-content bookings are executed smoothly and on deadline.
A-List Customer Engagement
The marketing manager will provide strategic guidance to the publisher on how to retain and attract clients on The Precedent A-List. This includes identifying new potential clients and revenue streams. The marketing manager will also provide support to customers using the website.
Events
The marketing manager will manage invitations to events in the legal community. They will work with the rest of the team to decide which events to attend and which events Precedent will cover. For events being covered, the marketing manager will arrange for coverage (story write-up, photographer) and coordinate with the event hosts. The marketing manager will attend events and network with members of the legal community. The marketing manager will also explore opportunities for Precedent to return to hosting its own events, whether in person or online.

The marketing manager will take the lead on managing new projects, such as grants or new sales initiatives. The marketing manager will set meetings and agendas to ensure that the proper people are in attendance to move the project forward.
