What: The 2015 Canadian General Counsel Awards
Where: Fairmont Royal York, 100 Front St. W
When: Monday June 1, 2015
The Canadian General Counsel Awards, created in 2005 by ZSA Legal Recruitment and the National Post, took place on the evening of June 1 in Toronto at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. In attendance for the sold-out black-tie gala were private practice lawyers and corporate counsel from across the country, ready to honour the accomplishments of Canada’s top in-house counsel.
Handsome tuxes, gorgeous gowns, epic schmoozing, and elegant glass awards brought the hall to life. Marie Henein, the night’s MC, surprised the crowd with a Seinfeld-diner-inspired video skit, satirizing her preparation for the MC role with the help of Scott Hutchison and other members of the Henein Hutchison team (Marie’s brother Peter Henein of Cassels Brock also made a cameo appearance). The video got the crowd laughing and warmed up for what was a fantastic no-holds-barred pre-dinner address.
Christopher Sweeney, CEO of ZSA, said: “We try to keep the event fresh and dynamic, and so this year invited Marie Henein to act as MC. She exceeded all expectations.”
Now in their 11th year, the awards bring together leading representatives of law firms and general counsel from across the country. “The CGCAs are undoubtedly the most glamorous event in Canada for lawyers,” said Sweeney.
