What: South Asian Bar Association – 2013 Awards Gala
Where: Park Hyatt Hotel, 4 Avenue Rd.
When: November 19, 2013
You know your organization has come into prominence when the Premier of Ontario is the keynote speaker at your annual gala. The SABA Toronto Awards Gala, now in its 8th year, was a sold-out, hot-ticket event. Even with a pre-dinner reception, there was so much networking and schmoozing in the dining room that it took the MC a good 10 minutes to coax guests into their seats before the official program could begin. Opening remarks by SABA’s board President were followed with Premier Kathleen Wynne’s well-received address. Awards were presented throughout the beautifully presented dinner and dessert courses.
“I am proud to say that 2013 witnessed SABA’s most successful Gala to date. Not just in terms of numbers but also by virtue of its distinguished guest list (which included leaders from the legal, political and business arenas) as well as overwhelming support from law firms, accounting firms and other legal organizations. This is a testament to SABA’s strong leadership in the legal community and its recognition as a mainstream, influential organization,” said Jayashree Goswami, President of SABA Toronto.
SABA is the GTA’s premier legal organization dedicated to promoting the objectives of South Asian members of the legal profession. Members of SABA include lawyers that self-identify as South Asian or are of South Asian origin, and lawyers that advocate on issues of relevance to the South Asian community. 2013 Awards and Recipients: President’s Award — Sukanya Pillai, Practitioner of the Year — Gita Anand, Young Practitioner — Gary Anandasangaree, In-house — Neil Puddicombe, Student — Devin Persaud. Precedent congratulates all of this year’s award winners for their contributions!
