Rainbow flagsThere’s more to pride week than lining Yonge Street on a Sunday afternoon to gawk at drag queens. The official festivities here in Toronto last ten days, so there are lots of other things to do, some of them related to the law. Two pride-related invitations arrived at Precedent HQ recently that we thought you might find interesting:

  • The Law Society of Upper Canada presents Pride Week 2008 Law Forum & Reception. Come for the forum on “The Legal Regulation of Behaviour and Expression”; stay for the cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
    Tuesday, June 24, 2008. Forum 4 p.m.-6 p.m.; Reception 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Law Society of Upper Canada, 130 Queen St. W. Free. RSVP by June 23 at 416-947-3413.
  • The 4th Annual Pride Toronto Gala & Awards isn’t directly law related, but Douglas Elliott, founding partner at the-law-firm-formerly-known-as-REKO, is being presented with a lifetime achievement award. Go and cheer him on at the Mount Olympus-themed blowout with host Sandra Bernhard. Tuesday, June 24, 2008. 6 pm. Fermenting Cellar, the Distillery District, 55 Mill Street. $300 per person. Black tie dress code.
