Giller Prize-winning author Joseph Boyden will be the main attraction at an event next Wednesday to mark the 126th anniversary of Louis Riel Day.
The event — presented by the Law Society of Upper Canada in partnership with the Métis Nation of Ontario — will include a reading by Boyden from his book Louis Riel & Gabriel Dumont, part of the “Exceptional Canadian” series from Penguin Canada.
There will also be a panel discussion: “Canada and Riel’s People: Promises Made, Promises Kept?” The panel will provide updates on legal developments for Métis people, including the Manitoba Métis Federation case. Guest speakers will be Jean Teillet, a partner with Pape Salter Teillet; Jason Madden, counsel with JTM Law and Jim Aldridge, a partner at Rosenbloom & Aldridge.
