Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP has announced it will be expanding to B.C. with the opening of a Vancouver office this April.

The Vancouver office will be the second location for the Toronto-based firm.

Cassels managing partner Mark Young said the decision to open up shop in Vancouver was based on several factors, including the size of the firm’s existing client and contact base in the area — in the mining sector in particular — as well as a “growing number of national and international opportunities we’ve identified that will be facilitated with a western presence.”

Cassels will relocate lawyers who already have “strong ties to the Vancouver business and financial communities,” the firm said in a news release, “and it is anticipated that a number of local lawyers with expertise in a variety of practice areas will be brought on board in the coming months.”

Jennifer Traub, a partner in the firm’s Securities and Corporate Finance Group, will manage the Vancouver office.
