The Canadian Bar Association website got hacked in December, according to a warning yesterday on the CBA’s website. Someone made off with a list of names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and membership numbers of CBA members. Credit card information was also apparently involved, but it was encrypted and so should still be safe. Affected members (apparently including law blogger extraordinaire Michael Geist) are receiving notices of the privacy breach. “Immediate steps were taken to further enhance the security of the site,” the notice says, but members are advised to check their credit card statements for any unauthorized activity. The Russian mafia issued a joint statement with Nigerian generals and a group of 15-year old kids from suburban Illinois in response: “Ha ha.”
