Insurance litigator Alex Curry is a great catch

For Alex Curry, fishing is neither a sport nor a hobby — it’s an addiction. Alex’s self-described “fishing problem” manifests itself in a collection of more than 30 fishing poles, two armfuls of tackle boxes, specialized cold-weather gear for sub-zero fishing, and chest waders and non-slip boots for fly-fishing.

The insurance litigator got his feet wet at age six on a fly-in fishing trip with his dad. Nowadays, his trips range from idyllic days spent fly-fishing on the Bow River in Calgary to hardcore ice fishing in Northern Ontario. Plans for the summer include taking clients out to troll for rainbow trout in Lake Ontario. His biggest haul? A 45-inch, 25-lb northern pike. “It may sound strange, but catching big fish isn’t really what I do it for,” Alex says. “For me, the best part is the anticipation.”
