PI Law Charity Hockey Challenge - Shoot for a Cure

What: 8th Annual PI Law Charity Hockey Challenge
Where: Canlan Ice Sports, Etobicoke
When: April 3, 2014

Personal injury lawyers raised $48,946 for spinal cord research at the 8th Annual PI Law Charity Hockey Challenge. The event, presented by Howie, Sacks & Henry LLP, was run in concert with the Canadian Spinal Research Organization’s Shoot for a Cure campaign. Prosecutors pitted themselves against the defense in pursuit of the newly christened Collins Barrow Cup.

Games ran for 15 minutes and competition was stiff. Zuber & Company LLP’s team, the Zuber Devils, won top spot this year, beating the Personal Injury Alliance, while Diamond & Diamond won third in the consolation game.

After the game, Stanley Cup champion Eddie Shack presented trophies and took photos with the winners. Shack also flexed his vocal cords, playing auctioneer for a signed photograph of his Cup-winning team, the ’67 Maple Leafs.

“I’ve been [practicing] for 24 years,” said Michael Henry, event organizer and HSH founding partner, “so I’ve seen many injuries, many spinal chord injuries. It’s a great cause, and it really fits well with hockey, and personal injury lawyers.”

Henry’s favourite part of the event is the camaraderie. “We’re out in court and busy with [our] clients, so we don’t get to see each other all that often. The whole thing just leaves a really great feeling.”

Providing legal services to cities throughout Ontario for over 30 years, HSH LLP is recognized as one of the top 10 personal injury firms in Canada. For more information visit the HSH website.
