On Friday, February 5, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the County of Carleton Law Association present the first annual Women Lawyers’ Symposium in Ottawa.

This all-day event includes presentations by the Honourable Justice Louise Charron of the Supreme Court of Canada, physician and work-life balance coach Dr. Mamta Gautam, law firms of all sizes and the people who put together the Law Society’s Retention of Women Working Group.

Discussion topics include:

  • assessing options and determining the best fit within the present, traditional law firm model;
  • ensuring inclusiveness for women;
  • playing a leadership role and assisting in the evolution of the profession;
  • applauding women who have succeeded professionally; and
  • finding ways to get or give support from or to other women in the profession.

The symposium will also include concurrent workshops — one designed for sole practitioners and lawyers from small firms, and another for those who practise in medium or large-size firms.

The attendance fee is $200. For more information register online, or call the Law Society at 416-947-3315.
