Carla Warrilow, Precedent's marketing and event coordinator, dies at age 25

On behalf of everyone at Precedent, I am deeply saddened to share the news that our colleague and dear friend, Carla Warrilow, passed away on Sunday, October 20. Her death, at the age of 25, was sudden and tragic and we are devastated. Our thoughts are with Carla’s family and friends at every moment.

It comes as a deep shock to hear about the death of someone that was so full of life. Carla was hired as the Precedent marketing and events coordinator in August, and instantly became a part of our team, a part of our family. Not only was she great at her job, but she was the kind of person who makes you feel like a good friend as soon as you meet her. She was clever and kind and we will miss her more than we can say.

While young, Carla was already very accomplished. She had her BA in art history from McGill, she volunteered as a gallery guide at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and she had been working in publishing for the past four years, starting as an intern at SNAP! in Montreal, then working for Where Magazine and Bizbash in Toronto and more recently working as the online editor at Oxygen in Mississauga. Born in Toronto, Carla grew up in California, but returned to Canada for university and chose to build her life in Toronto.

At Precedent, we felt lucky to have such a talented and hard-working member of the team. In her role at Precedent, Carla spent the fall criss-crossing Canada to hold events for law students in celebration of the launch of Precedent‘s second annual student issue. Her dedication, expertise and energy were instrumental to the success of those events.

We thank our readers, advertisers, sponsors, supporters and friends for your patience while we attend to the matters at hand and help Carla’s family get through this difficult time.

Donations in Carla’s memory can be made to the Art Gallery of Ontario.
