Montreal

Atelier Frank & Oak
160 Saint Viateur St. E.
Men $–$$

Gentlemen will be dressed to impress after a visit to Frank & Oak. Stock up on shirts with playful patterns, smart suits with smarter price tags, and accessories like briefcases, wallets and leather flasks (though we don’t recommend bringing the latter to your new job).

Delano Design Boutique
70 Saint Paul St. W.
Women $$$

This boutique specializes in “corporate with a twist of fun,” says the shop’s stylist and buyer, Elise Gabby. She helps many lawyers capitalize on the store’s collection of local designers and stylish womenswear, with suit jackets priced as low as $195 and dresses starting at $140.

Halifax

Mills
5640 Spring Garden Rd.
Women $$–$$$

The four owners of Mills are workplace style experts — three of them are lawyers — and their shop carries high-quality staples at all price points. Lisa Gallivan, co-owner and partner at Stewart McKelvey, advises young lawyers to invest in accessories like a nice handbag and great pair of shoes to guarantee a good impression.

Duggers
5476 Spring Garden Rd.
Men $$$

Duggers goes the extra mile to accommodate its male clientele, with quality business attire right down to its funky socks. The shop boasts personal stylists and in-store tailors. You’ll pay more for brands like Canali and Hugo Boss, but you’ll get more too: these are investment pieces, meant to last.

Calgary

Espy
1009 9th Ave. SE.
Men and women $$

Espy offers up mid-range prices and knowledgeable stylists who work with each customer’s budget and wardrobe needs. Men can treat themselves to custom suits and shirts or ready-to-wear garments. Women’s selections include trendy, comfortable looks from Ted Baker, Quebec’s Iris Setlakwe and Bodybag by Jude.

If boutiques aren’t your thing, check out these three nation-wide chains that never go out of style. And hear some of Bay Street’s most fashionable lawyers on how to dress for the job.
