Access to court records varies wildly from province to province, a story in the National Post points out today. While in B.C. most court decisions are quickly available for free online, in Ontario it costs $10 to even view a civil file, and a highway-robbery $1-per-page photocopying fee if you want a copy of your own. Ontario is one of four Canadian provinces that doesn’t post superior or provincial court decisions online. While most other provinces in the country are moving towards more and freer access, the article quotes media lawyer Fred Kozak as saying that Ontario appears to be “moving in the other direction.”
