With the holiday season upon us, Blake, Cassels and Graydon LLP is once again spearheading the annual Daily Bread Food Bank Law Firm Challenge.

The Toronto-wide event began in 2003 and is Daily Bread’s biggest employee-driven food drive during the holiday season. This year 33 law firms are taking part, competing to see which firm can raise the most money and food in a three week time-span to help those struggling with hunger.

Last year the winning firm was McCarthy Tétrault LLP, which raised over $40,000 for Daily Bread Food Bank.

This year’s drive started on Nov. 28 and runs until Dec. 19.

Since its inception, the food drive has raised more than $1.5 million. In the first year, the challenge raised $60,000; last year the total was $287,000 and organizers are aiming to top that this year.

All firms are accepting cash or cheque donations and food. Firms are also organizing weekly events: selling candy grams and raffle tickets, for example. In January a trophy will be handed out to the winning firm.
